ABOUT ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Julie Wheat hails from a small town outside Buffalo, New York. As a teenager, she designed, sewed, and riveted bags for the orchard industry. Wheat majored in Fine Art and Education at the State University of New York, Buffalo with a stint abroad in Manchester, UK studying Interactive Arts at the Metropolitan University. After graduating college, she moved to Fabulous Las Vegas to teach fine art and graphic design for 4 years, returned to NY, finished her M.Ed. and became certified as a Superintendent of Schools.
After one more Buffalo winter confirming her distaste for cold weather, Wheat moved to Charleston, SC in 2003. Armed with her M.Ed, she took a position as a School District Administrator managing IT and communications for 30+ school districts and more than 1.5 million students.
In October 2010, Wheat accepted an adjunct professorship at the Art Institute of Charleston in the Fashion Retail Management program and Cavortress was officially launched for retail consumption.
ABOUT CAVORTRESS DESIGN
The word 'cavort' means to prance and caper boisterously about and a Cavortress is the girl who does just that. Cavortress of Charleston, SC offers conspicuous classics that are perfect for fun in the sun. We design swimwear and essential summer pieces that are impetuously darling and easy to wear by girls of all ages. Swimwear prints are designed by Cavortress's owner and founder, Julie Wheat. The 2012 season is Cavortress's first year manufacturing and we are excited for Cavortress to be made in the USA with fabric and hardware imported from Italy.
ABOUT CAVORTRESS VINTAGE
The Cavortress Vintage Collection was first available to the public in the Fall of 2009. Cavortress vintage fashions are of similar flavor to the design label but injected with a heavy dose of fantastic classics that are appropriate for work in addition to cavortressing. A small collection of vintage fashions are also available at House of Sage, 51 George Street, Charleston, ThSC 29401.
